Building partnerships
Foundations for Success is a community-wide partnership. Our group includes representation from all areas, including early childhood systems, public schools, mental health professionals, medical professionals, policymakers, foundations, and–most importantly–parents of young children with mental health issues.
Partnering with parents and caregivers
Foundations for Success is driven by parents, caregivers, and other family members. They are the most important members of any mental health system, so we’ve laid out our continuum to help them be full and active partners in their children’s services:
- Families will find it easier to access the system. No matter who their first call is to, they will be given useful information and guidance to find the right program for their individual needs.
- Families will have more choice. By categorizing services according to features like level of intensity, cultural preferences, and geographic location, families can choose the features that are most important to them.
- Families will benefit from a broader network. As their needs change, families will be able to transition between programs without disruption.
Partnering with professionals
Our system also recognizes that professionals need tools and support in order be most effective. We’ve structured our continuum to help them better provide high-quality services:
- Professionals will have more connections. Through ongoing formal and informal interactions, professionals will become more knowledgeable about what other helpful services might be available for families.
- Professionals will have more information. By offering training opportunities and conducting ongoing evaluation activities, we are providing professionals with timely and relevant information.
- Professionals will share decision making. Together, professionals are more systematically assessing the service landscape–what services might be missing for families and what what services need to be ramped up. They also are advocating for sustainable improvements to the early childhood mental health system with a collective voice.
